Weekend Box Office Roundup

Weekend Box Office Top Ten:

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR opened at #1 with a record-breaking $250M (Million) domestic debut, and $630M worldwide. This becomes the biggest release of all-time both in the U.S. and overseas, dethroning THE FORCE AWAKENS domestically, and THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS globally. It's the first film to ever crack the $250M mark in 3 days, and beat the global record by almost $100M, without the added benefit of China, where the film has yet to be released, and where Marvel films enjoy a large audience. With a budget said to be in the $250-300M range, the film will astoundingly be profitable by next weekend, and could very well, should it continue to hold and play at this level, become Marvel's top grosser ever.

A QUIET PLACE is #2 with $10.6M, an impressive domestic total now of $148.1M, and a big $235.3M worldwide. Produced for only $17M plus marketing, this has become a hugely profitable hit for Paramount, with a sequel already announced in development, as the studio looks to this as a new, original franchise.

I FEEL PRETTY is #3 with $8.1M, to bring the total to $29.5M. Produced for $32M plus marketing, the film should become nicely profitable for STX thanks to good holds and international, where the film has yet to debut.

RAMPAGE held at #4 with $7.1M, a domestic total of $77.9M, and much bigger $334.6M worldwide. Produced for $120M plus marketing, this one has already hit the break-even point for WB and New Line, and should end up profitable theatrically, with more to be earned on the home markets.

BLACK PANTHER is #5 with $4.1M, a domestic total of $688M to currently hold the top Marvel spot in the U.S., and $1.331 Billion globally, a tremendous haul, with a sequel of course planned by the studio though yet to be officially announced.

SUPER TROOPERS 2 is #6 with $3.6M, and a total of $22M. Produced for $13.5M, this film should enjoy profitability on the home markets with a very loyal and enthusiastic fanbase, much as the original film did.

TRUTH OR DARE slipped to #7 with $3.2M, a domestic total of $35.3M, and $47.8M worldwide. Produced for only $3.5M plus marketing, this is another Blumhouse success, earning a solid profit for all involved.

BLOCKERS is #8 with $2.9M, a domestic total of $53.2M, and $75.3M worldwide. With a budget of $21M plus marketing, this has become a nicely profitable R-rated original comedy for Universal.

READY PLAYER ONE is #9 with $2.4M, a domestic total of $130.6M, and a much bigger global total of $545M. Produced for $175M plus marketing, the film has become a big hit for WB, with a potential sequel on the way based upon Ernie Cline's announced novel.

TRAFFIK is #10 with $1.6M, and a total of $6.7M, an okay result for this film which has a limited release strategy before hitting home markets.

Next weekend sees the release of OVERBOARD after the film shuffled off its previous release date to avoid the Marvel juggernaut, as well as thriller BAD SAMARITAN, and indie drama TULLY, as The Avengers will easily hold the top spot for the next couple of weeks.
