Weekend Box Office Roundup
Weekend Box Office Top Ten:
AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR is #1 with $112.4M (Million), the second biggest second weekend of all-time, to bring the total to $450.8M domestic, and $1.164 Billion globally. This is all without China, where the film debuts next weekend. With $713M internationally so far, it is likely that this film will hit over $1 Billion in overseas sales alone. Records continue to be met and broken with this film, which still has a lot of play worldwide for Marvel and Disney.
OVERBOARD opened at #2 with $14.7M, a great number for this romantic comedy remake which is said to have cost in the low-to-mid teen range, before factoring in marketing costs. It will definitely surpass the total of star Eugenio Derbez's last comedy, HOW TO BE A LATIN LOVER, at $32M domestic. Combined with good international numbers, this will be solidly profitable.
A QUIET PLACE held at #3 with $7.6M, a domestic total now of $159.8M, and an even more impressive global haul of $255M. Produced for just $17M plus marketing costs, this has been a huge original hit for Paramount.
I FEEL PRETTY is #4 with $4.9M, and a total so far of $37.7M, with international yet to debut. With a budget of $32M plus marketing costs, it remains to be seen whether this will be profitable or not theatrically, but should yield solid rewards long-term on DVD and streaming for STX.
RAMPAGE slipped to #5 with $4.6M, a domestic total of $84.7M, and a very impressive global take of $377.8M. Produced for $120M plus marketing costs, this film has become solidly profitable for WB and New Line, continuing star Dwayne Johnson's winning streak at the box office.
TULLY opened at #6 with just $3.1M, below expectations for this indie dramedy headlined by Charlize Theron, as the target audience did not show up.
BLACK PANTHER slid to #7 with $3.1M, a domestic total now of $693M as Disney tries to push it past the $700M mark, and a global total of $1.338 Billion. To call Disney and Marvel's success this year astounding would be an understatement.
TRUTH OR DARE is #8 with $1.8M, a domestic total of $38.2M, and a worldwide total of $58.4M. Produced for only $3.5M, this film has become another very nicely profitable hit for Blumhouse and Universal.
SUPER TROOPERS 2 is #9 with $1.8M, and a total of $25.4M. With a budget of $13.5M plus a moderate marketing campaign, this should be profitable, especially once DVD and streaming are factored in, as this film will have a strong fanbase support much like the original.
BAD SAMARITAN opened at #10 with only $1.7M, a disastrous result. With so much competition, this one could not break through.
Next weekend will be dominated once more by the mighty Thanos, as LIFE OF THE PARTY and BREAKING IN debut, before things kick into high gear two weeks from now with DEADPOOL 2, followed by SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY over the Memorial Day Weekend holiday.
