Weekend Box Office Top 10:

THOR: RAGNAROK opened at #1 with a huge $121M (Million) domestic debut, and $427M worldwide since opening last weekend internationally, and expanding into much of the marketplace this weekend. This marks Marvel's seventh film to open above the $120M range in the U.S., and at a $180M budget plus marketing, the film is well on its way toward being another wildly profitable hit for Disney.

A BAD MOM'S CHRISTMAS opened at #2 with $17M for the three-day, and a five-day debut total of $21.5M, right in line with expectations. Early worldwide stands at $28M for this female-driven comedy sequel from STX, and it is worth noting that internationally the original earned a strong $70M total. All eyes will be on how the film holds next weekend, and whether it matches that international number this time out. At a budget of just $28M plus marketing, the film will no doubt be profitable. JIGSAW slipped to #3 with $6.7M, bringing the domestic total to $28.8M, and worldwide to $59.5M. With a budget of just $10M plus marketing, this horror entry is nicely profitable for Lionsgate. TYLER PERRY'S BOO 2! A MADEA HALLOWEEN also from Lionsgate slid to #4 with $4.6M, and a total of $42.9M. The budget was kept at a reasonable $25M plus marketing, and while on the low end, is well in line with the other profitable entries in the Madea franchise. GEOSTORM is #5 with $3M, a domestic total of $28.7M, and a worldwide total of $182.3M. From Skydance and Warner Bros., the film is going to be a sharp loss with its budget of $120M plus marketing. HAPPY DEATH DAY is #6 and continues to be a hit with another $2.8M, a domestic total now of $52.9M, and a worldwide total of $78.3M, all on a budget of just $10M plus marketing, making this another successful pairing between Universal and Blumhouse. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE is #7 also from Universal, but with far less bright prospects as the film brought in $2.6M, and a total of only $7.3M. The budget was kept at $20M plus marketing, however, meaning it will only be a moderate financial loss. BLADE RUNNER: 2049 slipped to #8 with $2.2M, a domestic total of $85.4M, and a worldwide total of $240M. From Alcon, Sony, and Warner Bros., the film's pricetag of $150M plus marketing means it is going to be a big financial loss for all involved despite its critical acclaim. Much of the burden will be on Alcon in particular, which financed most of the film. ONLY THE BRAVE is #9 with $1.9M, and a total of only $15.2M. With a budget of $38M plus marketing, this Sony release will be a mid-level financial loss, not significant, but higher than the studio likely anticipated. THE FOREIGNER is #10 with $1.5M, a domestic total now of $31.9M, and a worldwide total of $120M. Produced for just $35M plus marketing, this STX release, a co-production with China, has become nicely profitable for all involved. Next weekend sees launches for DADDY'S HOME 2, and MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS, ahead of the global launch of JUSTICE LEAGUE two weekends from now looking at massive U.S. and international numbers.
