Weekend Box Office Top 10:

MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE opened at #1 with $23.5M (Million), and $105.5M worldwide. Produced for $62M plus marketing costs, the film will definitely be profitable for Fox within the next two weeks, with international repping over 70% on this franchise which remains hugely popular across the globe. All told this trilogy is set to earn over $900M worldwide off a combined budget of around $160M, without counting profits from streaming, dvd sales, etc.

JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE is #2 with $16.4M, a domestic haul of $338M, and a global take of $822M and climbing. Produced for just $90M, this has been a gigantic hit for Sony, who already have plans for a sequel to open in December 2019. HOSTILES expanded at #3 with a very respectable $10.2M, and a total now of $12M. Given the older audience who comes out for westerns, this should have a good multiple over the next weeks, as the audience does not typically rush out opening weekend. This will be another win for Entertainment Studios, who already had a surprise hit out of the gate with 47 METERS DOWN. THE GREATEST SHOWMAN held at #4 with $9.5M, a domestic total now of $126.4M, and a worldwide take of $259.5M. With a budget of $84M plus marketing, this is yet another win for Fox, who have been on a hot streak. THE POST is #5 with $8.8M, a domestic total of $58.5M, and a worldwide total of $83M and climbing. Produced for $50M plus marketing, this is well on its way to being profitable for Fox as well, along with its many award nominations. 12 STRONG is #6 with $8.6M, and a total of $29.7M. With a budget of $30M plus a modest marketing spend, this should be nicely profitable for Warner Bros. thanks to its holds and a decent international run. DEN OF THIEVES is #7 with $8.3M, and a total of $28.5M. Like 12 Strong, this was produced for $30M plus a modest marketing campaign, meaning it will be nicely profitable for all involved, and a win for STX which distributed but did not finance. THE SHAPE OF WATER is #8 with $5.7M, a domestic total of $37.6M, and $51.5M worldwide. This is doing well and should continue to have a little bump in play as awards season continues. PADDINGTON 2 is #9 with $5.5M, a domestic total of $32M, and a worldwide total of $185.8M, a good amount for this family sequel. PADMAAVAT is #10 with a debut of $4.7M, a decent opening for a Bollywood title at this time of the year. Next weekend sees the opening of horror title WINCHESTER as the sole new wide release, kicking off what will be an active February.
