Weekend Box Office Top 10:

Warner Bros. and New Line's IT is #1 again with $17.3M (Million), bringing the domestic total of Andy Muschietti's adaptation of Stephen King's horror/thriller to $291.1M and the worldwide haul to an incredibly impressive $553.1M. Produced for only $35M plus marketing, this film continues to be a massive hit and an unrivaled event film for the start of the fall movie season.

True story AMERICAN MADE is #2 with a decent debut of $17M domestic, while worldwide stands at $81.7M after several weeks of play internationally. This Tom Cruise-starrer directed by Doug Liman from a script by Gary Spinelli was produced for $50M plus marketing by Universal, and should reach profitability, thanks in large part to Cruise's appeal overseas in any genre.

20th Century Fox's KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE is #3 with $17M, a domestic total now of $66.7M after the film's second weekend in play, and a worldwide total of $192.9M. This sequel is from the original film's director Matthew Vaughn, with a script by original writer Jane Goodman and Vaughn, based upon the comic book series by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons. With a very reasonable budget of $104M plus marketing, there is no doubt it will be nicely profitable.

THE LEGO NINJAGO MOVIE is #4 with $12M, a domestic total of just $35.5M, and a worldwide total of $58.2M. From Warner Bros., this animated release and continuation of the Lego Franchise is a rare stumble after the success of the first film and THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE earlier in the year, however with THE LEGO MOVIE 2 on deck, this spinoff is not the end of the franchise, and prospects look much brighter for the sequel to the "mothership franchise" in the Lego Movie Universe.

FLATLINERS from Sony Pictures is #5 with a disappointing opening weekend of $6.7M domestic and $9.8M worldwide. A remake/reboot of Joel Schumacher's horror hit, this time from director Niels Arden Oplev, the film carries a production budget of only $19M plus a modest marketing campaign, meaning that though it will be a financial loss, that loss for all involved is minimal.

BATTLE OF THE SEXES is #6 after expanding into 1,213 theaters, bringing in a so-so result of $3.4M, and a domestic total now of $4M. International has yet to begin for this true story specialty title out of Fox Searchlight, directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, from a script by Simon Beaufoy.

Lionsgate's AMERICAN ASSASSIN is #7 with $3.3M, a domestic total of $31.8M and a very early worldwide total of $44M. This action/thriller based on the popular "Mitch Rapp" series of novels is directed by Michael Cuesta, and meant to launch a franchise of adaptations. With a budget of only $33M plus marketing, sequel prospects will rely largely on how well the film does internationally.

HOME AGAIN is #8 with $1.7M, bringing the film's total to $25.1M. From Open Road Films, this Reese Witherspoon romantic comedy is written and directed by Hallie Meyers-Shyer, with a very reasonable budget of only $12M plus marketing costs; meaning that it absolutely should be profitable thanks to strong holds domestically and however it performs once international rollout begins.

TIL DEATH DO US PART is #9 with a debut of $1.5M playing in just 562 theaters from independent distributor Novus. This thriller from director Chris Stokes came in quietly with decent results given the minimal advertising, and depending on expansion plans next weekend.

Paramount's horror/thriller MOTHER! is #10 with $1.4M, bringing the total of this Jennifer Lawrence vehicle, from writer/director Darren Aronofsky, to just $16.3M domestic and $34.8M worldwide. Produced for $30M plus marketing, this film looks like it will not earn enough worldwide to be profitable.

Next weekend launches the busy month of October with the high-profile release of BLADE RUNNER 2049 from Alcon and Warner Bros., the animated film MY LITTLE PONY: THE MOVIE from Lionsgate, and THE MOUNTAIN BETWEEN US from 20th Century Fox.
