Weekend Box Office Top 10:
JUMANJI is #1 again with $20M (Million), a domestic total now of $316.9M, and a global haul of $767.7M. Domestically, this is set to be the biggest Sony release besides installments in the Spider-Man franchise, and at a budget of only $90M plus marketing, possibly their most outright profitable release ever.
12 STRONG opened at #2 above expectations with a terrific $16.5M debut. International is yet to roll out on this film which WB distributed but did not finance, and at a budget said to be in the $30M range, this has every indication of being profitable for all involved. DEN OF THIEVES opened at #3 also above expectations, with $15.3M. International hasn't opened, but all territories were handled in pre-sales. STX distributed this film which carries a $30M budget, but it was financed independently. With this total, they're in great shape to become profitable. THE POST held onto the #4 spot with $12.1M, a domestic total now of $45.1M, and a very early worldwide total of $55M with almost every territory yet to debut. Produced for $50M plus marketing, the film should ride awards buzz and nominations to a strong multiple and profitability. THE GREATEST SHOWMAN is #5 with $11M, a domestic total now of $113.4M, and a global take of $231.4M and climbing. Produced for $84M plus marketing, this Fox film has become nicely profitable for the studio, and another hit for star Hugh Jackman. PADDINGTON 2 is #6 with $8.2M, a domestic total of $25M, and a worldwide total of $172M, a very good amount for this film which is said to have cost in the $50-60M range, meaning it will be profitable, albeit not nearly as much as the first film, which brought in over $250M global. THE COMMUTER is #7 with $6.6M, a domestic total of $25.7M, and an early worldwide total of $36.3M. Produced for $30M plus marketing, the film should be profitable thanks to coming in above tracking in the states, and due to Liam Neeson's star power overseas, especially in this genre. STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is #8 with $6.5M, a domestic total of $604.2M, and a worldwide haul of $1.296 Billion, making this immensely profitable even as it falls far behind the total of THE FORCE AWAKENS, around -$700M. It is finishing up roughly 35% ahead of ROGUE ONE, however. INSIDIOUS: THE LAST KEY is #9 with $5.9M, a domestic total of $58.7M, and a worldwide total of $126.8M, all on a budget of just $10M plus marketing, making this another big hit for Blumhouse and Universal. FOREVER MY GIRL opened at #10 with $4.7M, playing in just 1,115 theaters. Produced for only $3.5M, plus a modest marketing spend, this one should be profitable for all involved. Next weekend sees the release of MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE, and HOSTILES, closing out what's been a steadily profitable January.
