Weekend Box Office Top 10:
FIFTY SHADES FREED is #1 with a debut of $38.8M domestic, and $136.9M worldwide. The franchise has now earned over $1 Billion globally over the course of the trilogy, and with a budget of only $55M plus marketing, "Freed" will be profitable for Universal on its own this upcoming week.
PETER RABBIT is #2 with a debut of $25M for Sony, above expectations. Produced for $50M plus marketing, this will be profitable thanks to strong holds in the next few weeks plus the international appeal of the brand. THE 15:17 TO PARIS debuted at #3 with $12.6M domestic, and an early worldwide total of $17.9M. With a budget of $30M plus marketing, this should be able to reach profitability if it can hold onto older audiences and play decently overseas. JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE slipped to #4 with $9.8M, a domestic total of $365.6M, and the global haul now stands at $881.7M, assured to pass the $900M mark, or 10X its production budget of $90M. THE GREATEST SHOWMAN is #5 with $6.4M, a domestic total of $146.5M, and worldwide is $314.2M. With a budget of $84M plus marketing, this film has become nicely profitable for Fox, an old-school leggy hit playing through the winter. MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE is #6 bringing in $6M, a domestic total now of $49M, and a worldwide haul of $229.1M. Produced for only $62M plus marketing, the film is now profitable for Fox, with more to be earned, especially internationally where these films have been a tremendous success. WINCHESTER slid to #7 with $5M, and a total now of $17.1M. The film has yet to roll out overseas, where horror titles, especially ghost-related, have tended to perform very well over the last several years. THE POST is #8 with $3.5M, a domestic total now of $72.8M, and $123M worldwide. Produced for $50M plus marketing, the film should reach profitability, as well as its many awards nominations. THE SHAPE OF WATER is #9 also riding a wave of awards nominations and wins, bringing in $3M, a domestic total of $49.7M, and $74.3M worldwide, in addition to being the frontrunner for Best Picture at this year's Oscars. DEN OF THIEVES is #10 with $2.8M, a domestic total of $40.9M, and early worldwide total of $57M, meaning this will be profitable for all involved, and be the third biggest film in STX's short history. Next weekend will be ruled over by BLACK PANTHER looking at a massive global debut for Disney and Marvel, with animated family title EARLY MAN the only other new wide release.
