Falling Down: Mark's Resource Roundup

As creatives, we fall down a lot. We often associate that with that with failure, but falling is not a failure if you stand back up. The confusion comes from not understanding that falling is a necessary part of the creative process.
From a myth perspective, the spirit is associated with ascending, and soul is associated with descending. When we’re “In the zone” our creative spirits soar, we’re inspired. But as the old saying goes, what goes up, must come down. We don’t like being down. We try everything to recapture the heady feeling of inspiration. We drink too much coffee or alcohol, we smoke weed, shoot heroin, whatever it takes to get high. It’s no wonder so many writers are addicts. The tragedy is most of us fail to recognize the gift of falling into the “dark night of the soul”.
Did I say gift? Yes, I did. You see when we fall into despair over our writing we are so shrouded in darkness that we often fail to see the light at the end of the tunnel. That light, my fellow scribes, is imagination. The soul yearns for story so, when you feel yourself falling, go ahead and fall. Your inspiration waits underneath the darkness of despair.
The creative process is all about rising to the heights of imagination from the depth of emotion.
Keep writing,
Mark
