What does it take to be a successful screenwriter? Two things: motivation and story craft. I know what about talent? A quick look at what sells these days and you’ll realize you don't need talent to be successful in this business. It helps to be sure, but unlike the other arts where you must have a special inborn talent to succeed, no special talent is needed to be a successful screenwriter.
How can that be?
That's because the very skills you need to get along in life are exactly what you need to be a successful storyteller. You need to know how to survive, how people work and how the world works. Throw in a full set of emotions, plenty of life experience, and a rich imagination and you’re well on your way to a career in screenwriting. Yes, you need to study the craft, but your emotions, your experience, your imagination, and the desire to write are all you need to create successful screenplays.
Keep writing,
Mark
